Selections from the show “On Reality and Other Stories” in Belgium, including his singular “The Hyena Men” series.
I have a deep suspicion of photography, to the point where I do sometimes think it cannot accurately portray anything, really. And, I particularly distrust portrait photography. I mean, do you honestly think a portrait can tell you anything about the subject? And, even if it did, would you trust what it had to say?

these are very shocking, disturbing, yet intriguing photographs…
i’m not sure how i came across them…nonetheless i would like to understand the story/meaning behind them if you do not mind sharing…
i really find them very compelling as if there is an hidden agenda/story…but maybe its just me…
hi ade, i do not know much about Pieter Hugo and have also just discovered him. my friends bought three of his prints from the Hyena Men series. at first, i was shocked and disturbed by the photos and could not believe that they were going to hang these prints.
now, i cannot get enough of his work and am completely entranced by these images.
